According to the author the advertising on questions book radio station helped the Cumquat Cafe to grow up the revenue.
In particular he says the business has increased by 10 percent over last year. However this argument is very weak because its not consider any assumption that not not give the same authorís conclusion. Fist the argument ready assumes that the success of Cumquat Cafe is cased by the only advertising on local radio. But this assumption is questionable because it overlooks a lot of other factors that might influenced the on the, given results. For example the success is the consequence of the change of the menu or thanks to nursing the change of the Cafeís staff ( at firstly the chiefs). In addition the author does not give any information about the competitors. Infact the increase of the term death penalty, Cafeís business is due to the come out of papers grading, any local competitor. As a result give these reasons the authorís conclusion could not be accepted. In the second place the argument claims that the advertising on radio gives more positive prospects in terms of term papers death penalty, profitable. Even if it is transport dissertation, granted that the advertising on radio helps to increase the visibility the same success is not guaranteed to any and all other business.
In fact the success of a advertising compaign depends on the products that we want to sell. Once again the authorís conclusion in term death unconvincing. In conclusion, the argument is flawed for above-mentioned reasons and it is therefore unconvincing. It could be considerably strengthened if the research papers grading criterion, author has considered more other variables. Thank you for serving us this amazing thing. Death Penalty! Now I scored a 6 upon 6 in a sample essay here even though the number of nursing, words I used in the essay was 270 odd.
Does that matter in GMAT(the total number of words used in the essay)? In the passage the author arrived at a conclusion that investors are best served by increasing their exposure to precious metals in order to term on the death penalty take advantage of unique profit-making opportunity.Support for this claim takes the form , primarily , of an assumption that the questions book of genesis, demand for precious metals, such as gold and silver, is expected to be strong. On deeper analysis of subject at hand, it becomes apparent that certain relevant aspects have not been taken into account, leading to a number of flaws. One such flaw is that demand for these precious metals is largely driven by the economic growth of large emerging marketsĖChina, India, and Russia , but passage does not indicate whether the economic growth will also increase for on the, these countries. Motivationsschreiben! There can be a possibility that economic growth of these countries will decrease but still the demand for gold will be high. For instance irrespective of countryís economic growth people will still buy gold for other reasons other than investment. In order to strengthen the passage , the author should also specify some information about other factors that will make it clear that economic growth is not the on the, sole parameter for high demand of growth. Essays! There can be a possibility that economic growth of the country is good but investors want to term papers invest in security bonds instead of gold as that is considered as dead investment. Another such flaw which significantly weakens the research papers grading, argument, is the assumption that investors who invest in gold will get the best result in papers on the death penalty comparison with those who have invested in other metals or securities, although it is transport dissertation, not mentioned about the later investors. The line of reasoning I have employed points out several flaws in papers death penalty the passage. On closure examination of the matter, I conclude that the above passage is not logically sound.
This is the essay black sewell, essay i wrote. Can anyone help me know my rating for papers on the, the below mentioned essay ? 1. Resume From! ďWhat really matters in the leadership of business and organizations is getting results, reaching benchmarks, and papers on the death achieving success.Ē Ė In this issue the importance of ways of achieving success have been stated. Transport Dissertation! The aspirant can agree entirely with it, disagree completely or not take any side and present both sides of the issue. In any case, these need to term papers penalty be substantiated with actual examples of where business organizations either benefit from a result-oriented approach or they did badly because of it. In the above argument the author has very correctly stated the formula for growth and success in a company or any organization. This theory is not just meant for the employee or an individual but also for the growth and development of the organization as a whole. We have seen the real scenarios like the 5 Year Plan, 10 Year Plan which different parties campaign about during elections. These target set by the party, makes a citizen to vote for a party and give them an opportunity to form government if the impact and result of questions, these target are convincing to the audience. As and when the party comes into death penalty, power, they put in their best effort to resume achieve the target and give results as they very well understand that only papers death, results will help them to grading continue their government else, the party might be voted out ! Competition is everywhere. It may be schools, colleges, firms, organizations etc.
One has to get the results within the on the death penalty, set time to prove himself/herself over others . Only then can he/she can expect the organization for an promotion or increment. A theory which runs very truly in todayís scenario is the: Survival of the Fittest. @Sudesh / Mansi: You need to post your AWA essays in the text box in the main blog, not in the comments. While it may be true that Devis Technologies, a computer chip maker is facing problem of declining sales. The Authorís argument does not make a cogent case based on dropping its selling price. It is easy to understand that the company is having crucial time but this argument is rife with holes and assumptions and research papers thus its not strong enough to derived a conclusion. Devis Technologies is having higher selling price of the chips this assumed by the writer and as per him this is the death penalty, only reason responsible for fall in sales. Even to motivationsschreiben strengthen this argument he has not given any evidence. The writer has also not informed about either by papers on the death, a survey or by previous data he comes to the conclusion that high prices are the only reason.
The second thing which is assumed by degree, the writer is based on quality of the product. Term On The Penalty! As per nursing degree, the above statement quality of the death penalty, product is not having any contribution in reduction of sales. There are possibilities that the product is not getting share in the market due to inferior quality. Moreover Competitors price and strategy is also not clear from the statement. There are so many so factors like Advertisement, Sales Distribution, Research development Departments are not working in manner which can result into companyís profitability. Degree! When it comes to technology things get updated very quickly so it is important for company to papers on the penalty keep the pace with it. For Example, It our company have introduce a chip 1 year ago and our competitors have relaunch the essay anna sewell, same chip with some more advantages it will also effect companyís product. Last the papers on the penalty, writer has assumed that only this company is facing decline in sale rather than entire market of this product. It may possible that this is recession time for this product and every one is facing the degree, same situation. To Conclude, after examining all the factors and term on the death angles Devis Technologies should consider above mention points to strengthen the above arguments as it is not justify now. A reminder to post in motivationsschreiben the text box in the main blog post (itíll be visible after you like/share using any of the penalty, social media buttons) and not in the comments.
The argument in dissertation asserting that greater government involvement in regulating the food manufacturing industry and laying emphasis on adding more minerals and vitamins in death itís products as a counter measure to reduce the rate of adult-onset diabetes appears at first glance to resume be coherent and fairly convincing. However upon further examination of the on the penalty, argument and its underlying structure, a number of flaws and dubious assumptions become evident. Among the pivotal shortcomings of the argument are its inability to back the conclusion with legitimate medical theories and transport dissertation failing to acknowledge the fact that controlling adult-onset diabetes requires more that regulating the food manufacturing industry. Primarily, there is no statistical backing to the statement that the onset of diabetes is due to term on the quality of foods available at low prices. The argument fails to answer whether adult-onset diabetes occurs only among people who eat food products available at low prices in comparison with control group, of research papers grading criterion, people who never have food products at low prices. Secondly, the arguments asserts that government intervention in the food manufacturing industry can drastically improve the nutritional value of food products. However, the ground reality is that such regulation is usually accompanied by intense lobbying on the part of the food manufacturers, which ends in a long arbitration process without any practical solutions.
The argument could have included other avenues to supplement government regulation such as creating an awareness among both the food manufacturers and the consumers on the ill-effects of food quality. Finally, assuming that the government is successful in term death penalty making the food industry to include more vitamins and college minerals, there is no factual data that suggests adult-onset of diabetes occurs due to lack of vitamins and papers death penalty minerals, and an increased intake of these nutrients will curb its rate. It seems equally plausible to say that the same can be achieved by reducing the carbohydrate and sugar content in the existing products will lead to similar results. In conclusion, it is clear that the essay questions book, argument in its current state contains many flaws most have been discussed above. Ultimately, the argument might have been strengthened by explaining the causes for adult-onset diabetes how the proposed increase in minerals and vitamins will prevent it. Also, the argument, instead of putting all eggs in one basket, could have suggested alternative methods to supplement the government regulation of term papers on the penalty, low-cost food product manufacturers. Awesome man! Thanks and nursing degree much appreciated! The argument arrives at term on the penalty, a conclusion to recommend clients to check all purchasing invoices based on the fact that a check of motivationsschreiben diplomarbeit, 10 percent invoices at Windfall Ltd. resulted in a $10,000 profit. The argument further goes on to declare that it can help the consulting firm win the term papers on the death penalty, Windfall account. The presented argument has some merit, but it fails to be convincing as the beauty sewell, premise seems to be insufficient and the logic to arrive at term papers penalty, the conclusion seems to be flawed at various levels.
First, the premise that the checking of ten percent invoices led to $10,000 profit fails to acknowledge the proportion of this gain with respect to the overall monthly payments or the monthly gains of Windfall Limited. From College! For example, if the firm makes about $100 million in payments every month and achieves about term on the penalty, $50 million in net profit, then the $10,000 gain might not be very significant to the firm. Second, the transport, argument also fails to recognise whether the death, cost involved in checking 10 percent of invoices was less than $10,000. The resources spent on essay beauty sewell checking these invoices could have been used to other productive areas within the on the death, company. Thus, there is an angle of on the book of genesis, cost benefit analysis that the argument fails to address. Thirdly, the recommendation made by the author fails to address the papers on the penalty, cause of incorrect billings.
Instead of recommending its clients to check invoices, an alternative approach to improving billings systems and processes should have been explored. Finally, the essay black, conclusion that this approach will help the consulting firm gain an account of Windfall Limited also seems to follow a weak logic. The client will not be won solely on a recommendation that demonstrates a rigorous approach Ė instead a sound financial analysis and a strong supporting logic will be appreciated by the client. Hence, if the argument answers the concerns raised above it can be more persuasive and complete. The assistant manager presents the evidence that when music of a particular country is on the, played, the resume college, sale of wine from that country is papers death, greater than the sale of wine from another country. He then concludes that the papers, speciality food from a particular country should be put on term sale for a week and the music from that country should be played. He believes that this will result in an increase in the stores profits and black beauty that the store will be able to ascertain in term papers death advance what items they should stock up on.
However, the assistant manager uses non relevant evidence to form his conclusion. The argument lacks any solid evidence and will be refuted with examples. The comparison of wine sales to the sale of other items is not valid, as the wine is not on motivationsschreiben diplomarbeit discount whereas the manager recommends that the other items be put on discount. A consumer will buy items on sale, irrespective of the music played. For instance, a store selling german sausages at a discount, will be able to attract customers because of the lower price of the sausages compared to regular rates, irrespective of whether german music is played. The manager concludes that by selling items on sale through the entire week, the store will make a profit. Surely, even if this were true it cannot be the papers on the penalty, best case scenario as an even more substantial profit could be made by beauty anna sewell, selling the items at full price, and hence receiving a larger margin of profit. Further, to sell items on sale for a whole week the store would have to have a phenomenal amount of stock in its warehouse, of items from that particular country whose produce is on sale. Generally, stores do not have old stock in bulk from a particular country and hence will be providing fresh stock on sale, which will further dig into on the penalty, what could have been potentially high profit margins. Finally, while the manager cites the effect of grading criterion, music on wine sales, he concludes about the effect of on the death penalty, music on sales of all food from a country.
This is an resume, invalid assumption. For instance, while Italian music may uplift a customers mood and term death penalty edge him or her to reminiscent of good times and purchase Italian wine, it may not make the same consumer purchase everything from Italian Wine to Italian Bread, Italian Cheese, Italian Pasta, Italian Ice cream and so on. Only a very niche customer would be likely to do so, while the majority will be satisfied with their wine purchase, and then move on to buy their regular grocery from other countries, while listening to the soothing Italian music. The assistant manager, uses vague reasoning and essay is erroneous in papers on the his conclusion. To strengthen his conclusion he would have to cite relevant facts. His recommendation is degree essays, ill-logical and is unlikely to be carried out into action. The end result he claims to believe would be impossible to achieve via the proposed course of action. The Argument presented here arrives at the conclusion that to improve the companyís profitability and enhance the perception of the consumer more reduction in on the penalty prices should take place. In order to support this conclusion the author presents a case of one of the energy drinkís reduction in prices and the effect which it had on research papers the perception of the target consumers. The Author explains reasons of the increase in particular Energy drinksís Unit sales is comprehended to this changed perception and the way the promotional offer is well received by many of the customers.
The Author in order to come to this conclusion has made many basic assumptions which when negated could actually weaken this argument.Firstly, he tries to assume that the term papers on the, Energy drink market is fairly uniform and equivalent to motivationsschreiben diplomarbeit all sections of society. Secondly, he assumes that the Customer base for all the energy drink is comparable and death the target groups for all the energy drink is degree, same. Finally, he fails to consider the Overall increase in sales of the energy drinks with regards to term papers death penalty his competitors by mistakenly assuming that only his energy drink has increase in the sales without considering the market share increase of his drink. These basics assumptions could weaken his argument making him vulnerable to critics. However answering few questions or giving more information about the essay black, energy drink and his target market could quite strengthen his argument.Information about the market share of the energy drink is on the death penalty, required. Also it would be good basis to give the data of the resume from, Competitorís sales which could make the Unit sales of the company more comparable and more strong with statistics. He could define the word ďPerceptionĒ and how the customer sees his energy drink and what are the different ďPerceptionsĒ about the papers on the, other energy drinks in questions book market. He could also target and term list down what are the other perceptions which could enhance these perceptions about his energy drinks. Thus the argument by questions on the, the author is quite on a week platform which has many assumptions and term papers on the death is very vulnerable to critics. Its lacking many data point and papers grading criterion information which could have strengthened the term papers on the death penalty, case of the diplomarbeit, argument. However with some more study of the argument and inclusion of some more viewpoints and data this argument can be made more solid and debatable. Q. The following appeared in on the death penalty a memorandum from the business department of the Apogee Company: ďWhen the Apogee Company had all its operations in one location, it was more profitable than it is today. Therefore, the Apogee Company should close down its field offices and conduct all its operations from a single location. Such centralization would improve profitability by cutting costs and helping the company maintain better supervision of all employees.Ē Discuss how well reasoned you find this argument.
In your discussion be sure to analyse the anna sewell, line of reasoning and the use of evidence in the argument. For example, you may need to papers penalty consider what questionable assumptions underlie the thinking and what alternative explanations or counterexamples might weaken the conclusion. You can also discuss what sort of evidence would strengthen or refute the argument, what changes in the argument would make it more logically sound, and what, if anything, would help you better evaluate its conclusion. In the passage, the business department of the Apogee Company argues that the company should have centralised operations from a single location to improve profits and to maintain a better supervision of all employees. This argument is based on the premises that centralisation will reduce cost, and that the reason for the erstwhile profitability of the company has a direct co-relation with its central operations. The argument also seems to rest on the premise that supervision of the employees is always done by central agencies, thus rendering it easier and better when the operations are concentrated in one central location. However, on closer examination, it becomes apparent that certain relevant aspects have not been taken into account, leading to a number of mistaken assumptions and logical flaws. One such flaw is the questionable assumption that the company was earlier more profitable because all its operations were in one location.
However, no data has been given in support of this assumption. It is possible that earlier the cost of its raw material was less due to more availability or that the Apogee Company could command higher prices in the market due to less fierce competition. There could be several other reasons as well. In order to papers criterion strengthen this assumption, the company should analyse the relevant data to find out exactly what the reason for higher profitability was and whether it had anything to do with centralised operations or some other factors (such as demand, cost of the input material, change in taxation, etc.) Moreover, the company argues that centralisation will bring down the on the, cost. This may not be true as the companyís logistics and papers criterion travel cost may go up due to term papers on the having just one central location.
A comparative analysis of relevant data points such as reduction in the cost of real estate and maintenance of various operations vis-a-vis increased travel cost and freight cost would help better understand whether the aforementioned assumption is a sound one. The company also argues that supervision of employees will be easier and more effective in black a central location. This assumption is flawed as many employees, especially those involved in sales and market development may need to be travelling to far off areas and if the company has all its supervisors centrally located, it may lead to poorer rather than better supervision. The company should analyse similar situations in other organisations and the effectiveness of centralised supervision to determine the nature of impact of the centralisation on term papers on the penalty employee supervision before concluding. After close examination of the passage presented, it is apparent that there are many logical flaws. The recommendations in the essay show how the argument could be strengthened and made more logically sound. It says failed to load :( Can you copy paste it for me and tell me my result? While the passage provides a valid fact that the Apogee Company was doing well before decentralization, it fails to make a cogent case.
There are various compelling evidence that should have been evaluated before reaching the conclusion. Firstly, the argument fails to resume from consider various other factors that could have been the reason behind the company being less profitable. Perhaps the macro-economic factors such as the economy facing a decline in the previous year affected profitability. Term Papers Death! The department might not have accounted for the costs of relocation and the costs to develop the field offices. The argument would be severely weakened if we remove the fixed cost expenses and then compared the profitability as there is a significant chance that profits were hurt by opening the satellite offices. Also, if the company closes the field offices and moves back to a single location, it would incur further relocation costs that would continue to affect profitability. It discounts the fact that field offices in multiple location has its merits; diversification lowers risks and research papers grading criterion would increase the reach of the company. The argument would be weakened if there are figures that reveal how their competitors improved communication with customers and papers increased brand recall by opening multiple offices. Furthermore, the argument assumes a few factors that might not necessarily be true. One assumption is that the company would be profitable if it moves to one spot; there is a significant chance that external factors continue to drain profits.
It also assumes that better supervision of the employees would improve profitability; it is certainly plausible that the employees are diligent workers and supervision would not have a profound effect. The argument would hold more water if the writer had given figures pertaining to the exact costs that would be cut; also, it would have helped if he had given specific examples of black sewell, effective supervision. The metric behind judging profitability is unclear, and the writer would be able to bolster his claim if the exact metrics are made clear and relevant examples are given to demonstrate how operations from a single location improved profitability. This memorandum is from the business department and a more holistic approach to term papers penalty the issue with input from multiple departments would make the argument more valid. It would have been helpful if the author had mentioned reasons why the company opened multiple locations in the first place; perhaps it was forced by pressing concerns that would render this particular centralization argument void. Thus it can be agreed upon that asserting that centralization is the sole factor behind profitability as the ultimate truth is fallacious. ďEducation comes not from books but from practical experience.Ē The author says that ďEducation comes not from books but from practical experienceĒ. Research Grading! First, the argument readily assumes that the education does not comes from books but from practical experience. This statement is a stretch and term on the penalty not substantiated in any way. There are numerous examples in other areas of education that proves learning is done via books and is rather successful. For instance, mathematics is the subject which can be taught from practical knowledge and learning through books is the best bet.
Another example is the subject History. One cannot travel back in time or to those places to teach through practical knowledge. Books are the black beauty, most standard and reliable way to study history and term on the penalty itís importance. Clearly with above examples, one can definitely say that it is wrong to assume that education is best fed though practical knowledge. The argument could have been much more clearer if it would have talked about specific field of education where practical experience is more important that bookish knowledge. Second, there are examples where practical knowledge is important to criterion have better understanding of a subject. But this in no way allows to scrape out the learning from books. For example take MBBS, where practical sessions are key to master that field but for term on the penalty, that also, one needs to research criterion have thorough theory knowledge that comes from books.
In addition , from term on the above example it is essay black, clear that practical experience is important but it cannot stand strong alone. It has to on the be combined with good theory lessons. In fact there is no direct correlation evidence given to prove that practical knowledge is directly proportional to better education. Degree Essays! If any such cases would have been given or demonstrated, the author would have sounded bit more convincing. Finally , what I personally feel that any education without theoretical knowledge is incomplete. Practical experience can polish your skills and make you more professional and expert in any field. For that to happen, oneís theory base has to be really strong to excel. Is it possible to make primary school pass out , a manager of a company ? Or why do every school or education system is designed to term papers on the have a theory classes in motivationsschreiben the beginning of the course followed by a practical sessions? Without having convincing answers to these questions, one is left with the impression that the claim is term death penalty, more of a wishful thinking rather than substantive evidence.
ďWhat really matters in the leadership of business and organizations is getting results, reaching benchmarks, and achieving success.Ē The argument claims that the ďWhat really matters in the leadership of business and organizations is getting results, reaching benchmarks, and achieving success.Ē Stated in criterion this way the argument fails to mention several key factors, on the basis of which it could be evaluated. The conclusion of the argument relies on the assumptions for which there is papers on the death, no clear evidence.Hence argument is weak and has several flaws. First, the argument readily assumes that getting results , reaching benchmarks and achieving success are the prime most important factors to define success in essay black beauty anna sewell business. This statement is the stretch and is not substantiated in any way. There are numerous examples in term on the other areas of business and commerce where these factors vary from person to person and one cannot define the benchmark for success.
For instance, take an example of a small cafe or restaurant which provides good food, elegant ambiance and great customer satisfaction. There may not be many people knowing about this place or it may not be that famous but still,it might have got loyal regular and happy customers and makes enough profit margin. The restaurateur can say that his business is running successfully as hes happy with the customers comments and decent profit his cafe is making. On the other hand, take an example of McDonalds, we all know how much popular it is across the globe and thousands of customers visit it daily , making the profits in millions. So if that small restaurateur looks at this success, he may get intimidated and must not have achieved the benchmarks as compared to McDonalds. Thus the argument would have been much more clearer if it explicitly gave examples of a particular company and itís benchmark considerations. Second, there are many organizations who do not even consider monetary gain to define their success. The happiness or the on the, pleasure of giving back to society defines their success. Their benchmark and success would be summed by the no of people who have gained from it . One such example is Teach for India. This organization was not established to make profits like most of the other organizations. They help children from all parts of India getting basic education with the aim of term death, making everyone educated and make them stand on their own legs.
This may be success for them and this would be the dissertation, case of many other similar organization. Papers Death Penalty! So every person and organization may have different parameters to measure their success and results. For some, it may be money, for questions of genesis, some it may be eternal happiness of on the penalty, helping others. If any such particular case would have been given or demonstrated, the author would have sounded bit more convincing. Finally, one cannot simply define the parameters of getting success or achieving results. This may vary from individual thinking and cannot be declared as the standard thumb rule.
So author should have specified it more clearly with examples. Making money may be success for one but not for research papers grading criterion, other. Having satisfied feeling of on the death penalty, helping and degree essays doing for people even at your own cost can be blissful for term papers on the, one but may be bitter for other. so what is the papers grading, parameter , that author has assumed to define success or meeting results should have been mentioned explicitly. In conclusion, the argument is flawed for the above-mentioned reasons and is therefore unconvincing. It could be considerably strengthened if the term on the death, author clearly mentioned all the relevant facts supporting the various parameters he is transport, considering to papers define success and diplomarbeit meeting benchmarks .In order to term death penalty assess the merits of a certain situation/decision, it is essential to have full knowledge of all contributing factors. Without this information, the argument remains unsubstantiated and open to motivationsschreiben diplomarbeit debate. Discoveries and inventions are not born from nothingness. If necessity is the mother of term, invention, then an essay beauty sewell, equally competent father would be a combination of term papers on the death penalty, curiosity, scientific temperament, and research skills.
With the firm belief that I possess these skills, I aspire to fulfill my dream of pursuing advanced research in an application-oriented field, by obtaining my Masterís degree in Electrical engineering. As a stepping-stone towards this dream, I am pursuing my Bachelor of Technology degree in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering from SRM University, ranked first among many private institutions in India. This has laid a strong foundation for my graduate studies. There are two reasons why I believe that a graduate study in an esteemed university, such as yours, is necessary for a person aspiring for a research career. Firstly, working under the guidance of experts whose work would inspire and mould a student effectively into a creative and liberal thinker and researcher. Degree Essays! Secondly, the emphasis on independent learning is an ideal way of making students capable and knowledgeable in a specialization and keeping abreast of the term on the death penalty, latest technological developments. Keeping the aforementioned points in mind, I have chosen Signal Processing as my field of specialization. I believe that graduate studies in dissertation this area will help me achieve my career goals. I am fortunate to death penalty belong to a family that places my education as a top priority. I hail from an upper middle class Indian family of advanced degree holders.
My late mother was a gazetted officer (high-ranked executive in Indian government and a member of Chamber of Commerce). My father is an administrative official in the Indian law ministry. My parents have been my role models in degree essays the way they have brought up my sister and papers death penalty me in a conservative Indian society, with modern thoughts and progressive ideas. They have managed to provide me with top quality education, rich cultural values and sowed the seeds of passion for higher education in me. My elder sister is pursuing her PhD in Bio-engineering at Chicago and I have always admired her dedication and perseverance in her area of interest. I also have many cousins in the USA pursuing graduate studies or working as engineers in exciting fields. Their guidance and advice, along with constant motivation by the professor (Dr. Resume From! Joselin Retna Kumar) who taught me Digital Signal Processing in college, strengthened my desire to term papers death penalty pursue graduate studies. Dr. Essay Questions On The Book Of Genesis! Kumar described his graduate years as one of his most fulfilling times, his passion resonated with me and I knew that conducting research geared towards creating knowledge was the academic and professional path I sought.
My enthusiasm to participate in term penalty research on Signal Processing, and mainly Image Processing stemmed from my love for event photography. My curiosity to grading criterion understand the gestures, relationships and actions involved in social events spiked my interest. I believe images allow us to store, retrieve, communicate, and term transmit data and also serve as a medium to understand the world around us. In my opinion, one has to nursing degree essays strike a balance between gaining technical knowledge and translating that into death penalty, practical applications. I am confident about my ability and scientific acumen to apply the knowledge I gain and improve myself on a daily basis. Signal processing is the tool that would help us tackle daily challenges and simultaneously convey scientific solutions in universal jargon across varied sections of society. It is said that a picture speaks a thousand words and an understanding and analysis of each of them is very important. I wish to essay on the book of genesis study in papers on the death detail about image processing and computer vision, along with machine learning methods to essay questions book of genesis frame new algorithms. The mathematics and science involved in death this aspect are great in transport dissertation scope, and comprises of abundant uncharted areas for research.
I hope to integrate technologies from various fields, such as machine learning and algorithms, into image processing. With successful image processing, we can automate a lot of tasks such as medical surgeries and video surveillance using visuals Ė this is the driving force of my research. My innate passion to papers on the death learn new concepts and my enthusiasm to apply them motivated me to seek relevant opportunities and gain hands-on experience. My first practical encounter with Electronics was during my sophomore year, when I built a Ďdigital cymometerí using a zero-crossing comparator. I converted sine, square, sawtooth, and other cycle waveforms to essay questions of genesis Transistor-Transistor Logic (TTL) form followed by micro-controller-based frequency computing. I optimized the code and algorithm to guarantee accuracy. Term Death! This boosted my confidence to take up more challenging projects that included constructing a Ďtraffic light control systemí using 89S51 micro-controller and building an ĎA/D and D/A converterí using basic components such as ICs, diodes, transistors, and resistors. Research Papers Criterion! Also, I successfully built an obstacle detector and a line-following robot using Arduino Uno as the term on the, micro-controller.
Such projects along with courses like Digital Signal Processing, Robotics and Automation, Power Electronics, and Microprocessor and Micro-controller bolstered my idea of pursuing graduate studies in this specialization. My interest in the field of signal processing has been instrumental in conceptualizing two very crucial, interdisciplinary projects that would directly impact our lifestyle and well being. The first one was designing a cost-effective temperature-controlled baby incubator, and book of genesis incorporating an auditory system that would fill the term penalty, incubator with maternal heart sounds, while reducing background noise by employing microphones and speakers to capture and send audio signals. The biggest challenge was to ensure that the productís efficacy and safety is obtained at resume from, an economical cost. Death! Currently, we are in talks with a hospital that would let us experiment with the prototype. Transport! The other significant project I undertook was to devise a stress meter using fuzzy logic and Case Based Reasoning (CBR). The concept involved developing a wearable galvanic skin response meter for sweat level monitoring in patients. This response meter will detect anxiety and stress levels. Term Papers On The Death Penalty! I analyzed hundreds of patient records to understand the usage behavior based on nursing age, sex, occupation, and other parameters.
After successfully constructing the response meter, I wrote a paper describing my research, which I plan to submit to a relevant journal soon. Papers On The Death Penalty! Presently, I am trying to integrate a control action such as playing soft music when the person is under stress. My undergraduate capstone project is papers grading criterion, focused on replacing the repetitive pick and place motion performed by humans by term papers death, an automatic material handling system. The proposed solution employs image-processing techniques along with a robotic arm using a universal gripper to classify and essay questions book sort the objects on a running conveyor belt. The greatest supplement to my academic experience has been the opportunity to be part of service-learning. On The Death! Apart from maintaining my academic position within the top 5% students in my class, I have actively and zealously pursued my hobbies. ĒOne personís life can influence the lives of an unbelievable number of peopleĒ, this is resume from college, one of the most important lessons I learnt, being a part of a non-profit organization Ė Make A Difference (MAD).
I held major positions such as Finance Controller for MAD Chennai, and a mentor for children at risk. Papers Death Penalty! I was involved in tutoring underprivileged adolescents, managing finances, and counseling 11th and 12th graders towards a chosen career goal. In addition to community service, extra-curricular activities and college clubs were a fundamental part of my education. My extensive involvement in various quizzes, concerts, technical and motivationsschreiben non-technical fests illustrate this. Along with singing, I am also a keen basketball and a throw-ball player. I have led my team in numerous tournaments and competitions. My interpersonal skills and leadership qualities helped me sustain through the varied roles and on the emerge out dissertation, as a team player, every time. Having grown up in a country with a rich potpourri of ethnicity, diverse beliefs and religious practices, I have learned to appreciate the fact that racial harmony requires respect, tolerance and open-mindedness towards accepting cultural differences, rather than drawing comparisons or sensing disparities. Prevalence of a diverse and inclusive culture at SRM University has also improved my ability to term work in diverse groups.
Each student brought his or her own unique cultural background and experience. Essay Book! Living and learning together instilled. self-confidence and term papers on the death a spirit of camaraderie within me. My undergraduate years have made me experience something similar to sewell a Copernican inversion of my inner being. Papers On The! My quest for answers drove me towards reading and analyzing different scientific concepts, learn about the latest research in the field and think about the gaps in knowledge.
Seminars and conferences pushed me in the best ways to broaden, question, and to evolve my ideas and approaches suitably. Motivationsschreiben! I have always striven hard to achieve deep understanding of concepts in all the courses I took and the research projects I pursued. Papers On The Death! The research carried on signal processing under Dr. Charles Boncelet, Dr. Kenneth E. Barner and Dr. Gonzalo R. Arce and in particular the techniques concocted by them in the field of image processing best suits my pursuits. I believe that I possess the desire, the intellectual ability, and essays the preparation to do justice to term papers penalty a demanding graduate program and to make significant contributions to the ongoing research at your University as a student, as a researcher and as a teaching assistant. It is my belief that all success stories are built on partnerships, symbiotic relationships between the subject and people or entities that come in contact.
Similarly, the essence of resume from, university education lies in the success of the symbiotic relationship between the student, and term papers on the penalty his/her department. With your reputation in questions on the book the field of my choice, I am sure working under you would be greatly beneficial to me. At the same time, I am confident of contributing meaningfully to the research endeavors at University of Delaware. It is on the death penalty, with this in mind that I am looking forward to a long and college rewarding relationship with you. The conclusion, recent surge in term penalty violence in the west of the city is dissertation, because of shortage of police officers could be right, as a neighborhood prone to death penalty continuous violence requires an adequate number of police force to keep a check on those, who indulge in fomenting tension. However, to conclude that the only way to end the problem of violence is, doubling the police force is a serious mistake. To affect permanent peace requires more than doubling the police force, and here the college, passage-writer makes a series of faulty conclusions about the problems in the west side of the city, and term on the death therefore suggests flawed solutions.
The first major flaw of the argument is comparing two sides of cities, without providing any clue if they are similar or different. If, the two sides of the city are similar, than a reduction in the budget and the police force in nursing the north side, at term papers death, least for a long time, is not advisable. However, if the north side of the city is not witnessing any violence due to composition of the society, than perhaps, its budget and the police force is just adequate to nursing degree essays maintain the peace. Therefore, before making a suggestion to reduce the budget and the police force in the north side of the city, only because there is no violence, a proper assessment of the probable eruption of violence should be conducted. The argument points towards few characteristic features of the west side of the city: lack of political leadership, people of different culture and society are living there, and mostly young population. Thus, creates a picture of a place with extremely high likelihood of violence. Further, to say that educational development and term papers penalty creating job opportunities are peripheral issues reinforces image of degree, a place, where violence can be controlled by force only. The problem with continuous low-intensity violence is that sometimes it surges to a threatening level in papers death very short period of time.
In the case of sudden surge in transport dissertation violence in any place, increasing the number of the police officer is term papers death penalty, only solution. But to deal with a place, as defined by the passage-writer requires some creative thinking. The lack of political leadership can be substituted by increasing dialogue among communities. Essays! The argument, the term on the death, violence is also due to the lack of leadership is right. Had there been communitiesí leaders available at the time of need, violence might not have surged to a threatening level. Thus, the degree essays, city mayor should take steps to encourage dialogue among people of different culture and term papers on the death penalty different faith. The mostly young population- the word, ďyoungĒ is misleading, as it hides the actual age composition the degree, society. Term Death! However, if the word young refers to age group of papers grading, 15 to 30, than the city mayor is right to focus on educational development and creating job opportunities- as idle youths often take to crime and term penalty violence. Sometimes, a problem requires multiple solutions; similar is the on the, case of the violence. The argument errs to term on the death focus on only one aspect of the violence that is lack of nursing essays, enough police officers.
The city mayor has to look into various aspects of a problem. Thus, the city mayor is right to focus on papers death educational development and creating job opportunities. However, the mayor should take steps to increase dialogues among different communities, as only trust among communities ensures lasting peace. Free Essays on Death Penalty - Ö
The Disturbing Photography of Sally Mann. By RICHARD B. Term? WOODWARD APRIL 16, 2015. At the transport opening last spring of papers on the penalty, ďImmediate Family,Ē Sally Mannís show at the Houk Friedman Gallery in New York, the winsome young subjects of the nursing essays photographs aroused as much curiosity as the artist herself. On The Death? Motoring among the spectators like honorees at a testimonial dinner, Mannís three children ó Emmett, 12, Jessie, 10, and Virginia, 7 ó looked completely at ease with the anna crowdís prying adoration. While her mother and father conversed with friends and term death penalty admirers, Jessie orbited the four rooms in her red dress, fielding questions from sewell, strangers eager to know more about her parents. Beneath a portrait of himself in the water, Emmett shrugged off the stares and expressed a typical teen-age frame of mind. ďThese shoes cost $70,Ē he boasted about term on the death penalty, his opening night footwear. Book Of Genesis? All three seemed unconcerned by the fact that on the surrounding white walls they could be examined, up close, totally nude. The Mann children have endured scrutiny for some time now. Eight years ago, their mother began to chronicle their growing up ó the wet beds, insect bites, nap times, their aspirations toward adulthood and term papers on the death penalty their innocent savagery. And the work that resulted has changed the lives of all involved. Sally Mann was an papers grading criterion accomplished photographer before the series, but in these intimate black-and-white portraits, exhibited piecemeal over the last several years, she struck a vein.
The fears and sheltering tenderness that any parent has felt for term on the, his or her child were realized with an eidetic clarity. A half-naked androgyne, smeared with dirt and grass stains, looks up from a leaf-strewn yard. Lithe, pale shapes move with prideful ease among thick-torsoed elders. The images seemed to speak of a familiar past that was now distant and transport dissertation irretrievable. The vein has bled silver. Since the beginning of the term papers death year, Houk Friedman has taken orders for more than 300 prints, well over a half-million dollars worth of photographs, and the waiting period for essay book of genesis, delivery of new prints is at least a year. Probably no photographer in term papers on the death penalty history has enjoyed such a burst of success in the art world. And it will likely continue now that Aperture has published a monograph of ďImmediate FamilyĒ in conjunction with a traveling museum show, opening on Oct. 29 at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia.
Not all the scrutiny has been welcome or favorable. The nudity of the motivationsschreiben children has caused problems for many publications, including this one. When The Wall Street Journal ran a photograph of then-4-year-old Virginia, it censored her eyes, breasts and genitals with black bars. Artforum, traditionally the most radical magazine in the New York art world, refused to publish a picture of a nude Jessie swinging on a hay hook. And Mannís images of childhood injuries ó Emmett with a nosebleed, Jessie with a swollen eye ó have led some critics to challenge her right to penalty record such scenes of degree essays, distress. ďIt May Be Art, but What About the Kids?Ē said the headline in an angry review in The San Diego Tribune. Mann has so far been spared the litigation that surrounded the Robert Mapplethorpe shows. And unlike Jock Sturges, whose equipment and term papers on the death penalty photographs of nude prepubescent girls were confiscated by the F.B.I., she has not been pursued by the Government on child pornography charges. But a Federal prosecutor in Roanoke, Va., from whom she sought advice, warned Mann that no fewer than eight pictures she had chosen for the traveling exhibition could subject her to arrest. Beyond issues of artistic license, Mannís work has raised worrying personal concerns.
The shield of motherhood can quickly become a sword when turned against dissertation, her. If it is her solemn responsibility, as she says, ďto protect my children from all harm,Ē has she knowingly put them at term risk by releasing these pictures into a world where pedophilia exists? Can young children freely give their consent for controversial portraits, even if ó especially if ó the artist is their parent? And apart from legal and epistomologic matters, is the work any good? Do these sensual images emerge from the behavior of her subjects or are they shaped by the taste and fantasies of the photographer for an affluent audience?
Is it pandering or bravery, her willingness to motivationsschreiben photograph what other adults have seen but turned away from? Walking through the on the death penalty rooms of the gallery, you could not help but wonder what Emmett, Jessie and Virginia will think about these photographs and about their mother, if not this fall, then in 5, 10 or 15 years. You can be sure that Sally Mann wonders, too. The doorbell at the Mann home in Lexington, Va., is a small, black, wrought-iron breast. Visitors announce themselves by pressing a red nipple within the raised areola. Like the red-metal dragons that line the driveway or the 20-by-24-inch blowups of the children in the foyer or the photograph on the living room wall of motivationsschreiben, Sally Mannís father, dead in term papers on the penalty his bathrobe, the resume college doorbell seems designed to give a start to term papers penalty the uninitiated and to put some comic distance between the occupants and their neighbors. Motivationsschreiben? The same attitude of defiance is there in the cover portrait of ďImmediate Family.Ē Bare-chested with arms crossed or akimbo, the three little Manns level their gaze at the world. Children and house both project the term papers death penalty sensibilities of book, Sally Mann herself.
A 41-year-old dark-haired beauty whose turned-up nose accentuates a natural hauteur, she is a cool mom. With her brood safely strapped in, she drives a black BMW 735i, very fast, and favors a subdued, asexual preppy look ó turtle-necks and papers death T-shirts, cut-off shorts, dirty Reeboks. Lexington is research papers, a genteel town, site of Stonewall Jacksonís house, Washington and Lee University and term papers the Virginia Military Institute. Born and diplomarbeit raised here, married to the same man for 22 years, Mann is secure enough in her surroundings to term papers on the death penalty take liberties with the mores of research criterion, a place only 50 miles from the headquarters of the Rev. Jerry Falwell and his Moral Majority. ďI think the South depends on its eccentrics,Ē she says one summer afternoon on the back porch as Jessie and Virginia weave in and out of the house. (Emmett is away at camp.) ďIt loves them, and it rewards them in lots of ways. This community allows itself to be scandalized by me and by my work, but they love it. What else would they do if it wasnít for me? I take being iconoclastic sort of seriously.
Itís my role here.Ē Ex-Ēdirt hippiesĒ who still grow much of their own food and until a decade and a half ago barely made enough money to pay taxes, Sally and Larry Mann are a tight couple. Both ďImmediate FamilyĒ and ďAt Twelve,Ē her portraits of local girls on the cusp of term penalty, puberty, are dedicated to him. While she has pursued her photography career with singleminded purpose, he has been a blacksmith and a two-term City Councilman; recently, he got a law degree. His office in transport town is 10 minutes away, and he walks home nearly every day for lunch. Their house has an airy mood of papers on the, understated comfort, its three levels overlooking a wisteria arbor and transport a well-tended vegetable garden in a yard that slopes down to a creek. Rope swings and hammocks hang from ash-leaved maples. Papers On The Death? The decor includes photographs by Diane Arbus and Emmet Gowin, both important figures for Mann; walls of books; marble torsos of nude women; finches in cages and flying free; the skeletons of lizards and cats. Essay Black Anna Sewell? An expansion completed this year provides each child his or her own room; Sally and Larry reside in a connecting wing, which also houses her new darkroom and offices.
To meet the demand for her work, she can now afford to hire an assistant. The slow, wet air of southern Virginia in July and August, when even the trees perspire, serves as a backdrop for Mannís idylls of leisure. ďEven though I take pictures of my children, theyíre still about here,Ē she says. ďIt exerts a hold on me that I canít define.Ē Mann photographs only in the summer; the rest of the year is devoted to marathon sessions of printing. ďNothing happens during the other seasons,Ē she says with a shrug. ďI suppose I could do a normal domestic picture of the kids doing their homework. But thatís not what I do.Ē The collaboration of the children in their motherís work is apparent to anyone who spends time in their company. They are impish, argumentative participants, not robots. On The Death? (When a photographer asked them what kind of portrait of their mother should accompany this article, they shouted, ďShoot her naked, shoot her naked.Ē She did.) ďI have no objections, none,Ē says Jessie, questioned in her motherís absence about her feelings toward the photographs. ďThe few times I donít like it is when I have a friend over transport and Iím just in my room and term papers on the Mom says, ĎPicture time,í and essays I donít really want to do it.Ē But Jessie, whose heroes include Helen Keller, Martin Luther King Jr. and term papers Madonna, has the body of a little girl and motivationsschreiben diplomarbeit the mind of an art director.
Like all the term papers on the penalty children, she will note places where her mother might photograph her. ďI know what my mom likes sometimes, so I point it out to transport dissertation her.Ē Letters to the Editor in papers on the death Response to This Article. Last spring, Mann decided not to publish ďImmediate FamilyĒ: ďI thought the book could wait 10 years, when the kids wonít be living in the same bodies. Theyíll have matured and theyíll understand the implications of the resume college pictures. I unilaterally decided.Ē Her fait accompli provoked an uproar from the children. ďThey were angry I hadnít asked them.Ē Family meetings were held. Emmett and Jessie were sent to term on the a psychologist to make certain they understood the issues. (Virginia was thought to be too young for transport, such an death encounter.) ďSally and Larry asked me to get Ďbeyond the diplomarbeit patter,í to find out how the term papers death penalty kids really felt about the pictures,Ē says the psychologist, Daniel Shybunko, who found both children to be ďwell adjusted and self-assured. They identify with their parents, which theyíre supposed to do as pre-adolescents.
In the course of the interview, we probed beyond that. There was some ambivalence. They certainly recognized the consequences that were negative as well as positive. Itís a family that really seems to work. Thereís a consistency of values and life style and, as a couple, Sally and Larry are really accessible to their kids.Ē
All three children exercised veto power over certain images: Virginia didnít want people to see her urinating; Emmett objected to a pose in which he had socks on his hands. ďYou know what theyíre really worried about?Ē asks Mann incredulously. ďThey donít want to look like dorks. They donít want to be geeks or dweebs. Nudity doesnít bother them.Ē Her husband, who sits down briefly during his lunch break, seconds her amazement. Essay Questions On The Of Genesis? Emmett, teased by his peers when his topless picture ran in term papers penalty The Washington Post, defused their jibes by telling them that his mother pays him huge sums of money to model for her. Transport Dissertation? (In fact, she pays them 25 cents a negative.) ďI was horrified, but the counselor thought that was great,Ē says Mann with some indignation. ďHe should say Iím making great art.Ē ďKids donít care about that,Ē interjects Jessie reasonably, her arms wrapped around her mother. ďWell, kids today are weird,Ē insists Mann. ďArt ranks way below plucking their eyebrows.Ē As though reminded of term papers death, her mission, she begins to play with Jessieís hair in preparation for an afternoon picture session. ďWhat are we going to do about your hair?
How about some braids? You look gorgeous in braids.Ē Jessie submits her head to transport the fussing hands with the term papers penalty dreamy air of indifference seen only in born actresses and fashion models. As she writes in the introduction to ďImmediate Family,Ē Sally Mann inherited the role of provocateur from her father, Robert Munger, a doctor who made house calls in an Aston Martin and delivered hundreds of babies in Lexington. A renowned gardener, with shrubs and trees from around the world, he was also an atheist and an amateur artist whose keen sense of the perverse delighted his two sons and daughter. For a long time he kept a white, snakelike figure on the dining-room table; only slowly did anyone realize it was petrified dog excrement. It was he who instilled a shameless attitude toward the flesh in his daughter, photographing her nude as a girl ó ďterrible art pictures,Ē says Mann with a groan ó and posing himself unclothed for a recumbent sculpture that now occupies a shelf in his wifeís den.
Mannís introduction expresses stronger memories for the black woman, Virginia Carter, who oversaw her upbringing than for her own mother. Elizabeth Munger, a dead ringer for nursing essays, her daughter, says, ďSally may look like me, but inside sheís her fatherís child.Ē This isnít quite true. ďDad was aloof, a self-contained person,Ē says Mannís brother Christopher. ďMom was the flesh-and-blood parent.Ē In his sisterís aggrandizement of the role of Virginia Carter, he finds a tendency to ďmythologize,Ē to seek ďdramaticĒ connections over more prosaic interpretations. Death Penalty? ďIt doesnít have much to transport do with the way the past really was,Ē he says. Like her mother, whose ancestors came over on the Mayflower, Mann has an ingrained sense of propriety. Term Papers? The dining-room table is essay black anna sewell, set with cloth napkins inside sterling-silver rings. The children have grown up with high expectations from their parents, who strictly control their television intake. During an argument one afternoon brought on by Jessieís wish to put ketchup on term death penalty her fresh trout, Mann forbids the act because ďitís common and I will not have common children.Ē In her self-mocking voice are overtones of sincerity.
Mann took up photography at the Putney School in Vermont; her motive, she has said in resume from many interviews, was to be alone in the darkroom with her then-boyfriend. Papers Penalty? She next spent two years at Bennington, where she met Larry, to whom she proposed. After a year in papers grading criterion Europe, she finished up her degree in 1974 at Hollins College, summa cum laude, and a year later took a masterís degree there ó in writing, not photography. Term On The? Through her mid-20ís she pursued both paths. The photographs have kept up a continuing dialogue between Mannís literary and visual selves. Nursing Degree? Before the birth of term penalty, her children, she trained her large-format view camera to bring out the mythic resonances in landscapes. Her prints, which often contrast the paleness of from college, flesh or stone with darker surroundings, hint at shadowy forces that can be sensed but not always seen. She wants to push this quality of term papers on the, ambiguity in on the book of genesis her pictures to locate something ďricher, softer, lusherĒ in the woods and fields around her. Like an essayist collecting quotations, Mann ransacks the history of term on the death penalty, photography for her imagery. ďIím a shameless borrower,Ē she says. The influence of college, Norman Sieff, her photography teacher at Bennington and papers on the penalty best known for his sepia-tinted album cover for the Band, can still be felt.
At Hollins, she reprinted the glass plates of Michael Miley, Robert E. Leeís main portrait photographer, and questions on the of genesis further immersed herself in the technology of the 19th century. A feeling of term death penalty, nostalgia as well as hidden danger has marked Mannís work for years. In 1977, she published a book of photographs on the historic architecture of Lexington, but the first images she will call ďgoodĒ were taken of the motivationsschreiben diplomarbeit new law school at Washington and Lee. Dating from 1975-77 and term papers included in her book ďSecond Sight,Ē published in motivationsschreiben 1982, they reduce the substance of brick and term death penalty iron to a blur of transport dissertation, spooky dimnesses. Beginning in 1979, she had three children in papers on the five years, and time for resume, setting up a camera in the wilderness or on construction sites grew scarce. Her solution to the demands of motherhood, which have eaten away at the schedules of artistic women throughout the ages, was ingenious: with her children as subjects, making art became a kind of term on the death, child care.
The family portraits began in dissertation 1984, when Jessie came home from a neighborís, her face swollen with gnat bites. Mann put her against a wall, took a dead-on picture and called it ďDamaged Child.Ē ďThat picture made me aware of the potential right under my nose,Ē she says. The next day, with Jessieís face still lumpy, she arranged props around her and took more pictures. Term Penalty? From its inception, the family series has played around with these two antagonistic elements: factual documentary and contrived fiction. For some time, Mann had been photographing young girls in and around Lexington, several of whose parents had been delivered into the world by her father, for the book published in 1988 as ďAt Twelve.Ē She wanted to catch the tension in their bodies, eyes and gestures as they passed into the confused state when girls become women. The pictures dramatize burgeoning sexuality, while implying the more forbidden topics of incest and child abuse. Mannís laconic captions lend a parental concern, honed with a feminist edge. Some of the poses seem casual; others, carefully directed. In her pictures of her own family ó like ďDamaged Child,Ē with its implication of battering, and ďFlour Paste,Ē in which Jessieís legs resemble a burn victimís ó Mann punches the buttons of her viewers.
Upon discovering that she has stage-managed a scene, some people feel cheated, as if their emotions have been trifled with. Diplomarbeit? ďI hope you can get past that,Ē she argues. ďYou learn something about yourself and your own fears. Everyone surely has all those fears that I have for my children.Ē An error has occurred. Please try again later. You are already subscribed to this email. Mann has been criticized for term penalty, treating violence with an estheteís dispassion, for bringing out the subtle texture of blood and bruises without offering a clear political statement along the way. The imagery of death fascinates her. Essay Questions On The? A picture of Virginia with a black eye moved her for a long time because ďyou couldnít tell if she was living or dead.
It looked like one of on the death, those Victorian post-mortem photographs.Ē In 1987, Emmett was struck by a car and thrown 50 feet. Though he escaped critical injury, Mann saw the real thing as a warning not to pretend again. Still, ďImmediate FamilyĒ includes a picture from 1989 that may be the most gruesome so far: a nude Virginia seeming to have hanged herself by a rope from transport dissertation, a tree. The class status of her children, who are not poor but appear to papers death penalty be in the photographs, can also seem problematic. Suicide, child abuse and poverty are not fictions. What may be cowboy playtime for criterion, her children ó pretending to be garroted ó is taken away from them when transported to the realm of adult melodrama. By posing Jessie with a candy cigarette and Virginia in papers on the death penalty Lolita glasses for the picture entitled ďThe New Mothers,Ē Mann gives them props whose dark associations they canít begin to understand.
Rather than preserving their innocence, the photographs seem to accelerate their maturity by relying on motivationsschreiben the knowingness of the viewer. In the minds of some, her eagerness to handle contaminated material has altered the quality of the work. ďAs her photographs have become more controversial, I think theyíve become more self-conscious,Ē says the papers death penalty photography critic Ingrid Sischy, who remains an admirer of Mannís work. ďWhen she was starting out, it was as though she were seeing her children out of the corner of her eye. As the issue has shifted to grading criterion her Ďrightí to take these pictures, the material has seemed less authentic.Ē Mann plays with threatening fantasies in her tableaux, at the same time that she shows parental realism in term papers on the her precautious feelings for her childrenís well-being. To protect them from transport dissertation, teasing, she hopes to term papers death keep copies of resume college, ďImmediate FamilyĒ out of term on the penalty, Lexington. She has asked bookstores in the area not to sell it and libraries to confine it to rare-book rooms. Both Manns claim to dissertation find no threat to the children from the book. ďI donít see any strong adverse effect from the term on the penalty pictures,Ē says Larry Mann. ďReally just the opposite. The kids are aware how the black anna pictures are received in on the death penalty the art world and diplomarbeit theyíre proud of them.Ē Sally Mann swears that if she thought for a moment that the term on the death penalty photographs would harm the children, the series would end: ďIím responding with the only vocabulary I have to essay of genesis ordinary and on the death penalty extraordinary situations that I see around me. I have to slap my hands sometimes not to take certain pictures.
But the more I look at the life of the college children, the more enigmatic and fraught with danger and papers on the death penalty loss their lives become. Thatís what taking any picture is about. At some point, you just weigh the risks.Ē At her best, Mann releases long-repressed feelings on the part of the viewer. It doesnít matter that Virginia is not actually asleep in transport dissertation ďThe Wet BedĒ; the circles of urine that stain the papers penalty sheet with the permanence of tree rings might have been created by degree essays any child. The sets of tooth marks on the arm of the term papers adult in nursing essays ďJessie BitesĒ were made by term papers on the penalty Mann herself, a long time after her daughterís had faded, but the look of unrepentant anger on Jessieís war-painted face expresses a very real frustration at an adult arm that both supports and holds her down. ďI donít remember the things that other people remember from their childhood,Ē Mann says one day as she drives the children home from a photo session. ďSometimes I think the questions of genesis only memories I have are those that Iíve created around photographs of me as a child. Maybe Iím creating my own life. I distrust any memories I do have. Papers On The Death? They may be fictions, too.Ē Mann photographs almost every day.
These sessions often take over dissertation an hour as she coaxes her subjects to remain still and change poses on command. Frequently she works from a sketch and tries many variations, in the style of a portrait painter. Her work embodies several antithetical trends in contemporary photography. By locating her material in on the the lives of her own family, Mann belongs among the confessional documentarians, like Tina Barney and Larry Sultan. Motivationsschreiben Diplomarbeit? But the construction of her photographs as fiction rather than fact, with a moody narrative linking the images, puts her in a camp with Cindy Sherman and the post-modernists. And finally, the antique look of the term on the death prints ó the vignetting, shallow depth of field, blurred edges and general languor ó connects her to neo-pictorialists like Bruce Weber and the Starns. College? Like them, she depends as much on evocation as description.
Several of the term papers on the death penalty photographs in ďImmediate FamilyĒ refer to more famous ones ó by Robert Frank (ďTobacco SpitĒ), Emmet Gowin (ďFallen ChildĒ), Dorothea Lange (ďDamaged ChildĒ) and Edward Weston (ďPopsicle DripsĒ). But the spirit of these thefts has little in common with the critical sarcasm of appropriated art. Her ďhomagesĒ are often done subconsciously and ďwith great affection.Ē Sally Mann is diplomarbeit, very much an term papers on the death penalty anomaly. Her large-format camera and resume thorough exploitation of black-and-white printing techniques hark back to papers on the death 19th-century ideals. Motivationsschreiben Diplomarbeit? She may have more in common with Victorian photographers, like Julia Margaret Cameron and Lewis Carroll, than with anyone contemporary. Her work shoots straight for term on the, the heart, sometimes cloyingly so. The warm tones of her favorite printing paper (Agfa Insignia) deepen the chronological ambiguities of her pictures.
She has spent years in the darkroom, learning her craft. Transport Dissertation? Ted Orland, a former assistant to Ansel Adams, rates her ďamong the half-dozen best printers in the country.Ē A sponsor of her Guggenheim Fellowship in 1987, he has known Mann for on the death, almost 20 years. ďShe was one of those people who was headed for greatness if she could only hold her potential long enough,Ē he says. He has watched her work become increasingly personal, both in subject matter and point of essay, view. Unlike so many young American artists who fell in love with big cameras in term the 70ís, reveling in the crisp detail possible with a larger negative, Mann did not become another cool topographer.
ďOne of the research papers criterion pitfalls of the on the death penalty large-format is that you get caught up in the historical baggage,Ē Orland says. ďSally managed to take new kinds of photographs with an old piece of equipment.Ē For years, Sally Mann labored in rural obscurity, worried that her kinds of photographs would never find favor in the art world. Against the hard-edged documentarians of the 70ís and the media-haunted generation of the 80ís, her lush, brooding scenarios looked out of place. Her last solo show in New York was at the now defunct Marcuse Pfeiffer Gallery, in 1988. But Mannís success in nursing the wake of ďAt Twelve,Ē and after the exhibition of some of her pictures at the Whitney Museumís 1991 Biennal, has not translated into venues at on the death penalty major institutions for research criterion, ďImmediate Family.Ē Self-censoring should never have to enter into an artistís or a curatorís thinking, according to Edward de Grazia, a professor at on the death Benjamin Cardoza School of Law in New York and the author of ďGirls Lean Back Everywhere,Ē a history of efforts to suppress literary and artistic expression in the United States. For a year, he has urged Mann to let him file a case that would challenge the Federal child pornography laws. He has fought in court to protect the works of essay on the book, Henry Miller and William Burroughs against term on the death penalty, charges of obscenity, and transport dissertation he feels that Mannís photographs deserve the on the death penalty same guarantees under the First Amendment. ďThe child pornography laws, especially the Federal laws, are very dangerous for artists like Sally,Ē he says. ďSheís working under an inchoate threat. Any Federal prosecutor anywhere in degree essays the country could bring a case against her in Virginia and not only term papers seize her photos, her equipment, her Rolodexes, but also seize her children for psychiatric and physical examination.
No artist should have to live under that kind of a threat.Ē Laws vary from state to state regarding such issues as exposure of a young girlís breasts in a photograph. But Federal laws, and those of many states, prohibit the ďlasciviousĒ exhibition of the genitals of a child under the college age of 18. In many instances, a violation of the papers on the death penalty law can be a serious felony. During a show of motivationsschreiben, Mannís photographs last year at the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Rev. Vic Eliason, a broadcast evangelist, rallied his supporters against her. ďHe got the police and the D.A. to come down and investigate the show,Ē she says. ďIt was scary because he talked about saving my children from me. It fizzled out.
But itís the kind of thing that Iím afraid of.Ē De Grazia says: ďWhat makes Sally such a good case is that right now her work deals squarely with this taboo subject of nude children. There isnít the slightest question that what sheís doing is art, so her motives and term death penalty the artistic value would be unmistakable to the Supreme Court. Dissertation? Her work would highlight the on the death penalty vagueness and overbreadth of the transport child pornography laws. Isnít work like this entitled to be protected under the First Amendment?Ē Mann is papers death penalty, understandably reluctant to put herself and her family in research criterion the middle of what would certainly be a long and papers bruising court battle. And she bristles at the word ďeroticĒ when applied to her photographs, preferring the book of genesis less charged ďsensual.Ē ďI donít think of my children, and papers on the death I donít think anyone else should think of them, with any sexual thoughts,Ē she says. ďI think childhood sexuality is an oxymoron.Ē But the extraordinary care taken in rendering the flesh, including the attention paid to incipient sexual characteristics, is not accidental.
By the cropping and ďburning inĒ of detail, Mann presents obsessive ó not casual or clinical ó examinations of her young childrenís nakedness. Black Sewell? And although she is by no means the first serious photographer to take pictures of children unclothed, the popularity of her work depends to some degree on this trespassed taboo. ďIt may be a maternal refusal to term papers face facts,Ē says Mann plaintively when challeged about her fine distinctions. ďI only wish that people looked at the pictures the way I do.Ē As Mann and I sit on the steps of the cabin at the 400-acre farm she owns with her brothers, Jessie and Virginia are splashing in the Maury River below, having stripped as soon we arrived. Most of the photographs in the family series were taken here, deep in the woods, miles from electricity. Diplomarbeit? A flood has recently wrecked the place. With the wind billowing the papers on the death curtains from the paneless windows behind us, Mann watches her children and talks about degree essays, her fears for them and for the pictures. ďTheir lives have been so fulfilling,Ē she says sadly. ďAdults have treated them with respect. They have no idea whatís out there in the world. I know what to be afraid of. They donít.
ďWhen I went to papers penalty that Federal prosecutor, she said: ĎDo you know what you really have to watch for? Someone who sees these pictures and moves to Lexington and nursing ingratiates himself into your family life. On The Penalty? Theyíll come after Jessie and Virginia because they seem so pliable, so broken in.í ďThat seems far-fetched, but if you want to know my worst fear, thatís one of degree essays, them.Ē She remains undecided about whether her own series of pictures will continue when Jessie reaches puberty. ďI swore two years ago that because she was beginning to look more like an adult woman, I was going to stop. But it would have been difficult, because sheís always naked out here.Ē She knows, too, that all three will soon close her out in developing their young-adult selves, and ďthat could be scary.Ē Daniel Shybunko has told her to expect a different opinion about the pictures as they ďassert their own autonomy.Ē That one of them could pen a ďMommie DearestĒ has also crossed her mind. A screaming fight breaks out papers on the, down by the river over degree Virginiaís watch, and term papers Mann, hoping the girls will sort it out themselves, tries to continue her train of thought.
Her longstanding affection for the books of Nabokov has faced revision in grading light of her situation. Papers? ďI just reread ĎLolita,í ď she says above the din. ďI love him, of course. But I found it pretty difficult to read the second time because of what he did to that girl.Ē Soon it becomes clear from the wails that Mann needs to intervene in the dispute. But by the time Jessie comes running up the stairs in tears, shouting ďI hate her, MommyĒ and disappearing into the woods, the opportunity for peacemaking has slipped away. Motivationsschreiben? Our interview falls off into awkward silence. Ten minutes later, however, tears dried, Jessie is prowling around in the cabin, having spontaneously fashioned a skirt and bolero for herself out of green leaves, like a sprite of nature.
Acting quickly to seize the moment, Mann sets up her Toyo on the tripod. Disappearing beneath the photographerís cloth, her hands protruding as they adjust the term papers knobs that control the nursing essays accordionlike bellows, she tilts and focuses the term death image that appears upside down on the screen at the back of the camera. The process takes several long minutes. Exhausted from playing in the river, Virginia meekly appears in the doorway, wrapped in a towel. Jessie stands on motivationsschreiben a bed and adjusts her costume, taking visible pleasure that she, and not her sister, has become the term penalty center of their motherís attention.
The curtains shroud her as gusts sweep through the diplomarbeit cabin. Virginia enters anyway, climbs up in on the death penalty my lap and watches in rapt silence as Mann emerges from behind the degree essays camera, takes a light reading, sets the aperture and begins to call out term death penalty, instructions: ďRaise your head. Essay? Look out the window. Point your toe. Bend your knee. Put your chin up. Make yourself veerrry uncomfortable.Ē (Laughter all around.) ďThere we go.Ē Weíre interested in your feedback on this page.

The Death Penalty Research Paper - Ö
How to Use the term papers on the penalty Feynman Technique to motivationsschreiben, Learn Faster (With Examples) Thereís a quote thatís often attributed to Albert Einstein which goes: ďIf you canít explain it simply, you donít understand it well enough.Ē Whether or not Einstein himself actually said this (itís never been properly sourced, so itís likely he didnít), itís still an insightful observation. Itís also one that yields a pretty powerful study tip when reversed: If you want to understand something well, try to explain it simply. By attempting to explain a concept in simple terms, youíll quickly see where you have a good understanding of that concept.
Youíll also be able to instantly pinpoint your problem areas, because theyíll be the areas where you either get stuck or where you end up resorting to using complex language and term on the death terminology. This is the transport idea behind the Feynman Technique. Named after the on the Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman Ė who, in addition to being a brilliant scientist, was also called ďThe Great ExplainerĒ for his ability to relay complex ideas to questions on the book, others in papers on the death penalty simple, intuitive ways Ė the Feynman Technique is a method for learning or reviewing a concept quickly by explaining it in plain, simple language . In addition to helping you pinpoint those problem areas in the concept youíre trying to learn, the nursing degree essays Feynman Technique gives you a quick, efficient way to shore up those areas using targeted learning . Itís a simple technique, but itíll help you study much more efficiently once you put into papers death penalty action. So how do you actually use it? Since the root of this technique involves explaining the concept, you could execute it in essays a number of ways Ė including literally grabbing a friend and explaining to them what youíre learning. However, you donít always have willing friends at hand, so hereís the simpler method that just involves a sheet of paper. Step 1: Grab a sheet of paper and write the on the death penalty name of the concept at the top.
You can use pretty much any concept or idea Ė even though the technique is named after Feynman, itís not limited solely to math and from college science. On The Death? Step 2: Explain the concept in your own words as if you were teaching it to motivationsschreiben, someone else . Focus on using plain, simple language. Donít limit your explanation to a simple definition or a broad overview; challenge yourself to papers on the death, work through an transport dissertation example or two as well to ensure you can put the term on the concept into action. Step 3: Review your explanation and identify the areas where you didnít know something or where you feel your explanation is shaky . Once youíve pinpointed them, go back to the source material, your notes, or any examples you can find in order to shore up your understanding. Step 4: If there are any areas in research papers your explanation where youíve used lots of technical terms or complex language, challenge yourself to re-write these sections in simpler terms . Make sure your explanation could be understood by someone without the knowledge base you believe you already have. 3 Examples of the Feynman Technique in Action.
As I mentioned earlier, simply defining a concept is papers penalty, only half the battle. Motivationsschreiben? If you want to explain is clearly, you have to papers death, apply it by working through examples. In the questions on the spirit of eating my own dog food, Iíve included three examples of how you might use the Feynman Technique below. Example #1: The Pythagorean Theorem. Weíll start with a very simple example. The Pythagorean Theorem shows how you can find the length of term papers death any right triangleís hypotenuse: When I initially started writing this explanation, I simply wrote the college sentence at the top and then added the formula. However, note how the final page has a couple of additions: A small picture showing what a right triangle is An arrow clarifying the nature of term papers on the penalty C in motivationsschreiben the formula.
This was my attempt to go back and further simplify the explanation. Even with a basic mathematical theorem like this one, there are still assumptions and papers on the penalty terms that encompass ideas that you may not be 100% clear on. Challenge yourself to identify those things and define them. Since the Pythagorean Theorem is a pretty simple concept, I thought you might like to see an example using something more complex. Bayesí Theorem Ė a concept used in probability theory and statistics Ė fit the bill nicely. And hereís a page working through a specific example and transport dissertation using the formula: These pages do a decent job of explaining Bayesí Theorem at a very broad level, but Iíll be the first to admit that this is on the death, a topic that takes a good long while to truly grasp.
In fact, I had to spend three hours reading through A.I. researcher Eliezer Yudkowskyís 15,000-word explanation of the theorem before it ďclickedĒ in my brain, so definitely check that article out if youíre curious. Nursing Degree? You can also check out Arbitalís more recent guide, which is Ė by Yudkowskyís own admission Ė much better and easier to follow. Hereís an example of how the term Feynman Technique can be used to review a non-mathematical concept. The CSS Box Model is a tool for representing the size of HTML elements (i.e. the code that makes up web pages just like the one youíre reading right now), as well as the spacing around them. Questions On The Book Of Genesis? I chose it as an example because itís a concept that took me a long time to grasp back when I started learning how to build websites as a teenager. To clarify that pageís general explanation, hereís an example of an element with specific height, width, margin, padding, and border values written in CSS code:
In addition to writing the code out, I thought it would be extra helpful to show exactly how each attribute affects the overall size of the element. To a budding web developer, it might not be immediately obvious that, say, a padding value of 10px actually increases the term papers death penalty elementís width by 20px overall (because the black sewell 10px is term papers, applied to each side). If you happen to be curious about the Box Model and want to learn more, check out resume, this guide. One final tip: While youíre working through the Feynman Technique for any given concept, it can be useful to pretend that youíre explaining that concept to term on the penalty, a child. Doing this will boost your own understanding for degree essays one simple reason; in papers on the penalty addition asking things like, ďCan I have another Oreo?Ē and ďCan I go watch Dragon Ball Z now please?Ē a kid is probably going askÖ While older people often become accustomed to taking things at face value, kids are naturally curious. Theyíre quick to point out research, their confusion. If you teach a kid how the Pythagorean Theorem works and give him the formula for papers using it, thereís a good chance heíll ask you: ďWhy does that formula work? How can you know itíll always work? Prove it, sucka!Ē
Öand then you realize that the kid was actually Mr. T in disguise all along, and now your life depends on being able to explain a geometry concept. How did you even get here? Seriously, though, this is a great mindset to adopt. Maybe you do know how the transport Pythagorean Theorem works, and maybe you can easily draw out the on the death penalty proof by rearrangement:
When it comes to other concepts, though, itís likely that youíre relying on transport dissertation assumptions, heuristics, and other black boxes when it comes to on the penalty, certain details. Transport Dissertation? So adopt a child-like mindset and challenge yourself to clearly explain the whole concept. Once youíve done that and worked through all the steps, you can further refine your knowledge of whatever youíre studying with other techniques, including: Hope this helps! The book covers topics like: Defeating procrastination Getting more out of your classes Taking great notes Reading your textbooks more efficiently. Öand several more.

Cheers mate. Thank you i learnt about the Css Model box and on the i had covered CSS ON my own but didnít get most concepts wanna be a software developer and this is from college, a great help for me to study. Today is first day to discover your YouTube Channel am from EastAfrica a country called Kenya. Awesome explanation of Bayeís theorum! If you want to understand the logic behind the superhero example, hereís how I think about papers on the death, it:
The important point is to realize that the resume odds of a superhero being a 6í2? bearded guy is 5x more likely than the term on the death penalty average person being a 6í2? bearded guy (5% compared to 1%). Now we take this realization and apply it to our example. We are trying to figure out essay book of genesis, what the odds are of our 6í2? bearded guy being a superhero. Term Papers Death Penalty? It is research papers grading criterion, ALREADY established that he is 6í2? and bearded. So now we apply what we figured out term on the death penalty, before, that a superhero is nursing degree, 5x more likely to be 6í2? and bearded than not. Term On The Death? Since the odds of motivationsschreiben diplomarbeit any random person being a superhero is .01%, the oddsof a 6í2? bearded guy being a superhero is .05% (5 x .01%). Please please tell me if my logic is on the, faulty. Am I the only one who thinks that his final conclusion in Bayeís is not satisfying? Of the 700,000 superheroes, 35,000 are 6?2 bearded guys. (In 35,000 there is both secretly and essay sewell Not secretly 6?2 bearded superheroes)
So I if we want to know how many 6?2 bearded is secretly a superhero, think we should mulitply it by the final answer, and now the papers on the death answer is: ď1,750Ē (out of 70,000,000 6?2 bearded guys, 1,750 can be expected to papers, secretly be superheroes). Someone, PLEASE read this. Iíd love to term papers on the death, know if Iím wrong or right. Research Papers Criterion? If Iím wrong, I need someone to death, explain/clarify it for me. Thank you so much for this great article tho. ó from your friendly neighborhood, Spidey #128521; This is great, thanks! I just watched your video and love the CSS explanation. Iím currently learning CSS and your explanation is transport dissertation, really helpful. I liked your video (although I donít do the thumbs up thing). I would like to recommend to my students (I teach mathematic).
Small problem Ė Bayes Theorem is P(A | B) = P(A and B) / P(B) not P(B | A) / P(B) Glad you liked it! Nick97 The statement is correct as shown. Term On The Penalty? For example (e.g.) he might be Batman. He may not be Batman but Superman so you cannot conclude (i.e.) he is Batman. I think you meant to write ďi.e.Ē instead of ďe.g.Ē in papers grading criterion the Bayesí theorem example. Great article, by the way! Similarly, me and my friends noticed this problem during high school. We were always the curious kind, and refused to use equations or continue with other material until we fully understood /why/ something works the way it does. We also got pretty terrible gradings that way, as fully understanding each concept was too costly for us in time Ė leaving little to fully learn the other 3/5 subjects in an exam. So, we learned to move on term papers on the penalty and simply behave as you 2nd friend Ė it was necessary for motivationsschreiben diplomarbeit us to get good grades in decent time.
Hahaha, I am sure, in term on the death the process of transport dissertation creating these notes, you begin to realize why this technique does not come intuitively for term death penalty most learners. This business of papers criterion simplifying the thing out, especially in the Bayes theorem that you wrote, seems like a big waste of time at first. You are writing out in long English sentences something that you know already. And not only once, you got to write it out term on the death, several times. I am glad there are people like Feynman and you who point us to things that are counter-intuitive.
Things that, at first glance, appear like a complete waste of time. Research Papers? But upon further observation, actually help to term on the death penalty, solve important problems. 37 Awesome Streaming Music Sites You Should Check Out. 'Sup. I'm Thomas, the guy behind this site.
